Mayville-Portland is an ideal location for anyone to start or expand a business. As a college town, our community boasts a well educated workforce. Mayville State University’s curriculum includes a strong emphasis on technology, and was the nation's first Tablet PC university – each student is issued a Tablet PC during their time at Mayville State.
Traill County Technology Center
Mayville-Portland has established a multifaceted infrastructure for the development and support of business. The Traill County Technology Center is located on the campus of Mayville State University and is a business incubator that provides virtually unlimited access to broadband connectivity through two established communications providers.
Capital Available
In addition to the space available at Traill County Technology Center, the Mayville-Portland Economic Development Corporation owns property and options on land for industrial and business development. The Mayville-Portland EDC also partners with the Traill County EDC to provide business financing. These entities work together to make no-interest and low-interest loans and tax exemptions available to eligible businesses.
Local county, regional, and state economic development resources are available to new, expanding, or relocating businesses.

The MayPort EDC meets at noon on the first Thursday of each month. The usual meeting location is the Mayville VFW.
Workforce
Mayville-Portland has a skilled and educated workforce with a strong work ethic. Mayville-Portland is located in the center of Traill County (population 8,600).
In addition to the workers in Traill County and adjacent areas, employers have the opportunity to enhance their workforce by including approximately 800 undergraduates at Mayville State University.
The 2010 Traill County Labor Availability Study indicates that the Traill County Labor Market Area is estimated to be 10,561 individuals. The Study determined that there are 4,181 Potential Job Seekers in our Labor Market Area (LMA).
The Traill County LMA workforce is well educated! 76 percent of them have attended or graduated from a post-secondary institution. Of the Potential Job Seekers in the Traill County LMA, approximately 94 percent have more than a high school education, with 30 percent of them holding a college degree.
Mayville State University is also a potential workforce training resource for expanding or relocating businesses.
